We are blessed
in many ways, but many of us also are struggling with our health.
Cancer, obesity, stress, sleeplessness, overmedication, and a
health care system that doesn't work all conspire to keep us from
being the best people God made us to be. With this in mind, the
Lenten Season at the Franklin Federated Church is titled Fit for
Christ, based on a four-pillar approach to lay the foundation
for better health.
PILLAR 1: EXERCISE. Jeanne Donnelly of Mokoto-Do
will lead a Tai Chi class on Wednesdays
at 7:00, from Feb.17 through March 24. Cost: $45 for the 6 week
session.
PILLAR 2:
FOOD WE EAT. The One Church, One Book
for Lent will be Michael Pollan's Food Rules. We will read the
book together and reflect on it throughout the 60 days of lent.
PILLAR 3: CONTROL. On Sunday mornings from Feb.
21- March 28, from 9-9:45, Pastor Charley will lead a Bible Study
based on the UCC curriculum Faithfully Facing Dying, dealing with
the moral issues of living wills, health-care proxies, and Physician-assisted
death. Come to 1, 2, or all sessions.
PILLAR 4: ACCOUNTABILITY. For the 6 weeks of
Lent, small, intentional teams called Health Accountability Teams
(HAT'S) will be formed. These teams are meant to be small-format
groups that will meet and covenant to share health information,
possibly discuss the Pollan book, share healthy meals, and anything
else to encourage each other to become more Fit for Christ in
2010.
Please join us this lenten season: all are welcome!
