Vision Meeting

Next Meeting in Vision Process:  March 24th

We hope that you will join us on Wednesday, March 24th, 7p.m. for the next Zoom meeting in our Vision Process on the topic of “Vision.”  Click here to sign up for the meeting or you can call or email the office (508-528-3808 or office@franklinfederated.org

The goal for this meeting will be to build on the draft Purpose Statement and hear your thoughts, dreams and hopes for the future of FFC, which the Transition Team will use to put together a Vision Statement.  A Vision Statement is a picture of the future-- a clear, challenging, specific description of what the church and community will look like in the next 3 to 5 years as the church lives out its purpose.

We enclose/attach two things that we want you to look at before the meeting (click on the links):

  1. AN UPDATED summary of the work we have done in our Vision Process so far.

  2. A worksheet of questions we will answer in the meeting.

Please look at both in advance of the meeting and have them with you on the 24th.

The FFC Writers Group

The FFC Writers Group will resume the week of January 25-30. We have been meeting biweekly via Zoom on Wednesdays at 4:00 PM, but that may be subject to change to accommodate the writers’ preferences and schedules. The group will be limited to ten participants.

Prompts revealed at the previous meeting will provide a common starting point, but from there writing go in many directions. Writers are encouraged to keep their pieces to one page where possible. Each writer sends his or her piece to all participants before each meeting, but reading them ahead of time is discouraged. We have found it is most enjoyable to encounter the writings for the first time in the author’s reading, using the text to support and memorialize the reading.

Invitations will be sent for each session, so please contact the FFC office (franklin.federated@gmail.com) or Lyn Pickhover (lyn@pickhover.net) if you want to be included. Please indicate whether every other Wednesday at 4 PM fits your schedule and also if there are other days and times you would prefer.

Happy writing!

This week’s topic: "How Do We Know It’s God?”

From Sunday, January 24 through Sunday, March 21, in our live-stream worship services, Rev. Dr. Marlayna will be doing a sermon series based on a book by Richard Peace entitled “Noticing God.” The sermon series will follow the chapter headings in the book and expand on the theme of how to cultivate an awareness of God’s presence in our daily life. This series is for anyone who has ever longed for a deeper experience of God beyond just an intellectual understanding of the Bible or beliefs about God or Jesus. This series will offer various ways to explore God’s presence and will appeal both to people who have gone to church their whole lives AND people who may only go occasionally or who consider themselves “spiritual but not religious.” Please invite your friends to worship with you!

HOW TO BE AN ANTIRACIST, by Ibram X. Kendi

Thursday nights, 7:00 – 8:30 by Zoom, February 4 through March 11.

Led by Margo Ball and Jean Southard

We probably all agree that racism has been a stain on the conscience of our country from the very beginning, when the first Africans arrived on our shores in chains. While much progress toward equality of the races has been made, as witnessed by our newly inaugurated Vice-President, the violent mob led by white-supremacists in the Capitol two weeks ago should convince us that much remains to be done. Perhaps even worse than a one-time mob is the steady, day-to-day drip of indignities endured by Black people in America as they are constantly being reminded to stay in their place, and the dangers they face doing ordinary activities like jogging or driving. One way we can learn how to do something about this is to read and discuss Ibram X. Kendi’s book, How To Be an Antiracist. We hope you will join us.

To join the group, please send an email before February 1 to Jean Southard at jksouthard@aol.com. Please read the first three chapters by February 4.
